Saturday morning, August 17, 2002, we left Austin early with a heavy agenda for that day. We arrived in Amarillo, unloaded the motorcycle from its trailer and rode the motorcycle to Palo Duro Canyon State Park. We toured the park and made it to the amphitheatre about 20 minutes before the show started. The show was a play called “Texas”, and included lots of singing, dancing, horse riding and flag waving. We were lucky to catch the show because it was the last one of the season. On the return trip to Amarillo, we froze because we had not taken time to put on the motorcycle windshield or to grab any long sleeve tops. When we got back to the motel, we needed to warm up so naturally, we turned on the heater. Our neighbors loved us because the heater set off the smoke alarm 3 times around midnight.
